Our brain communicates through chemicals. Everything we experience throughout our lives creates new chemical connections and repetition is what strengthens them. Each time you repeat a thought, an action or affirmation, you are reinforcing those pathways inside your brain. It’s the same as learning any new behaviour, the more you practice, the easier it becomes.

Positive self-talk is one of the most effective ways to reprogram our mindset and develop healthier thinking. A great way of doing this is by using weight loss affirmations, I’m a true believer that mindset is the biggest part of weight loss. Affirmations remind yourself that you are the one in control, they also focus on building self-esteem.

Every day is a positive step forward, every time you practice positive self-talk and weight loss affirmations, you strengthen the pathways in your brain that lead to positive outcomes. Don’t believe me? Try it for yourself. Below I have listed 20 affirmations, go through the list and pick out the ones that you feel comfortable with and that sound right for you or you could even use the list as inspiration to create your own affirmations.

  1. I believe in my ability to love and accept myself for who I am.

  2. I set myself free from all the guilt I carry around the food I chose in the past.

  3. Healing is happening in both my body and mind.

  4. Everything I eat heals and nourishes my body.

  5. I believe in my ability to change my habits and create new, positive ones.

  6. I am capable of achieving my weight loss goals, and I will not let anything stay in my way until then.

  7. I am enjoying my weight release journey. This time I will complete what I started.

  8. Eating healthy comes naturally to me.

  9. Exercising comes naturally to me.

  10. I love myself unconditionally.

  11. I love living in this beautiful body.

  15. I am proud of myself for choosing a healthier lifestyle.

  16. Becoming fit gives me a more positive outlook on life.

  17. Losing weight makes me feel more confident and comfortable in my own skin.

  18. I am giving myself the strong, healthy body I deserve.

  19. I am worthy of change.

  20. I am happy and healthy.

The best way to choose the right affirmations for you is to visualise your goal, what do you want to achieve? How would you like to feel? What is your biggest boundary? Take these answers and use them to create affirmations that are personal to you. Make sure to keep your affirmations positive and in the present tense.

And then… REPEAT REPEAT REPEAT

When you first say your affirmation, it may seem unbelievable. But by following a daily ritual of repeating affirmations, you can instill the power of habitual positive thinking in the subconscious mind. Your mind then becomes more open and receptive to this new information. You build confidence and can direct your thoughts towards achieving your goal. Repeat your affirmations at least 2-3 times a day.

“First comes thought; then organization of that thought into ideas and plans; then transformation of those plans into reality. The beginning, as you will observe, is in your imagination.” – Napoleon Hill
